Artist's Comments

Here's that perspective demo I've been promising for far too long. I feel a little odd presenting such a thing, as there are people who are better at it and have better presented their techniques.

I just want everyone reading this to know that perspective is a craft. It's learned both by the mind and by reflex. It's not magic, you can do this. This only real trick is that if you practice enough that you can eyeball minor stuff and things really speed up. Just keep practicing.

If you can spare $40, buy this DVD it's great: [link]

Oh my god finally! Malaveldt, this is awesome!!!

Haha, I've been asking for one of these from you for so long... It almost feels like this tutorial thing is just for me! It's truly an honor and privilege!

Hehe I'm going to give it a whirl now and I'll update you after I successfully create some insane mechas. Much much thanks, I'll be sure to accredit you and refer people back here :-P.

Again, thanks for the tutorial!

I hope you find it to be of some use. I meant to have something like this out there much sooner, but other commitments etc. I'll try to have another one out there sometime concentrating on ellipses and minor axes.

Haha! Ask and thou shalt receive! Thanks, man :D

That's very cool. I tend to do the same thing when I draw just to keep things symmetrical when doing a perspective view. Boxing out parts and thinking of all objects as cubes (the easiest thing to draw in "3D") is really a great way to do things and from there you can just keep adding details.

Oh and I also recommend Gnomon DVDs in general - they're all very good. You can find some for animation, modeling, texturing, rendering, matte painting and anything in between.
